Beer O'Clock Show

Month: February 2014

Episode 57 – Riwaka Hop Mule

This week we head to the grassy hills of Hobbit-filled New Zealand… via a London brewery called Honest Brew, who have used rare NZ hops in this week’s beer, Riwaka Hop Mule.

Will we enjoy the tastes of Aotearoa? Listen and learn!

Also with plenty of beery news and chat, it’s Beer O’Clock!

Episode 56 – Hogs Back T.E.A.

This week we venture to Surrey for a supermarket staple: Hogs Back Brewery’s T.E.A (Traditional English Ale).

Our review of that, as well as some beer-related man-flu remedies and other beery chatter.

It’s Beer O’Clock!

Episode 55 – The Ridge and Broken Dial

It’s a Scottish triple-header this week as not only are we joined by #1 fan, and actual Scottish person, DOODY (aka Michael), but we have TWO (count ’em!) beers from favoured Scottish brewery Harviestoun: The Ridge and Broken Dial. What do our trio of beer reviewers think?

That, plus we catch up with how the Sheffield Crawl went (someone had a belly-full of Canonball, we hear…) and more! It’s Beer O’Clock!

Wallowing In A Vat of Ale in The Steel City

As regular followers will know will have started running live events where we bring beer folk together to enjoy a structured day of enjoying fine beer. When an opportunity arose to run an event in Sheffield, we couldn’t pass it up and the #SheffieldCrawl was created.

The day began at the Sheffield Tap where the masses assembled for a 2pm kick off. They had come from far (Essex, me) and wide (Leeds, Manchester) to join a group of locals for the days festivities.

Episode 54 – Hop Stuff Renegade IPA

And we’re back! And we are kicking off Season 4 with the first of what will be a few beers sourced from breweries in London (with a mix, throughout the season, of beers from other parts of the country, naturally!). This week it’s Hop Stuff brewery’s Renegade IPA!

Plus plenty of beery chat! It’s Beer O’Clock!

Wallowing In A Vat of Ale, Once Again

122731207So I did it. My Dryathlon is over and I raised a final total amount of £555 – over £300 more than I originally set out to raise, for which I am eternally grateful to the following people..

My son, George, who gave me 21p from his own money box. My wife, my Mum, Uncle Pat, Val, Marie, Emma Gillan, Bod, Mark, Richard, Anne, Andy, Barney, Daz Oakley, Myles Lambert, Marion, Teresa, DeDolleDes, Glenn Johnson, Clare Freer, Andy P, Sian Foley, Philip Kelly, Ian Mayor, Kara & James, RDGMartin, Rach Smith, Alex Armstrong, Dina, Jim, #SomeRandomBlokeOffTwitter, Cheryl, Vic, Stath, Jim Chaney, Lizzie B, Nicola Beattie, Martin, Paul Connolly, Neil, Chris Hall, Lambic Andy, Chris, John Wilkinson, Roneebean, Doody, and Nigel.

So after what felt like the longest 31 days of my life, what better way to celebrate than spending an afternoon in a great pub with amazing company? Yesterday, a group of us went to The Swan in Stratford-St-Mary where we were entertained by Ed and his range of many, many fine beers. I sampled far too many to list here, so if you want to see what I sampled on my first day back on the booze, you can check my Untappd feed here.

The show is also back this week, this season we’ll be focusing on the brewery scene in London and have more special guests and the usual banter. Check out the first episode at 1800 on 7 February.
