Unlike the recent UK Top 10 Lagers, this poll was a close run thing from beginning to end. 523 votes were cast and in the end one pale ale emerged victorious. Here are the results of the UK Top 10 Pale Ales…

1. Beavertown Gamma Ray 5.4% ABV
Friend of the show, beer writer and #SomeRandomBlokeOffTwitter Justin Mason has this to say about the winner. As soon as Beavertown unleashed their beers on an unsuspecting public they created a buzz. Gamma Ray, first released in October 2012, was originally part of their boundary-pushing experimental Alpha Series, however its in-your-face US hop character made it an instant favourite with drinkers craving big ballsy beers that left their lips tingling and their palate in tatters, and it soon became a best-seller. With its spicy pine, passion fruit and grapefruit aroma and its huge bitter tropical citrus caramel flavour, Gamma Ray has achieved an almost cult status amongst craft beer lovers on this side of the Atlantic searching for an American-style Pale Ale that delivers every time. It is a truly special beer, and now it is available in cans it is a near-fresh hop hit you can have straight from the fridge whenever you want it. You can check out the show that we did with Justin where we review Gamma Ray and all of the other Beavertown cans here.

3. Brewdog Dead Pony (Club/Ale) 3.8% ABV

4. Oakham Citra 4.2% ABV

5. Pressure Drop Pale Fire 4.8% ABV

6. Kernel Pale Ale Simcoe 5.4% ABV

7. Thornbridge Kipling 5.2% ABV

Beavertown Gamma Ray, Magic Rock High Wire and Brewdog Dead Pony now join Camden Town Hells, Harviestoun Schiehallion, Fourpure Pils, Marble Dobber, Magic Rock Cannonball and The Kernel Citra IPA in the end of the year UK Top 10 Beers poll. Before that we have stouts, bitters and the next poll, Porters to get through.

You can nominate your favourite Porters in the comment box below or via Twitter using #UKTop10Porters until Friday 17 October. The poll will run from Thursday 23 – Monday 27 October and the top 3 will also be added to the UK Top 10 Beers poll at the end of the year.

In the meantime and/or for inspiration check out what Boak and Bailey are up to with their porter tasting at the moment.

Thanks to everyone who took time to cast a vote, we hope you enjoy giving these beers a try.
