Hopinions 180 “Homebrew Special #9”

This week Martin & Steve ramp up the nostalgia by bringing back the Homebrew Special from the ‘Beer O’clock Show’ days, and we’re joined by Sean O’Reilly who talks us through his brewing process and plans for the future

Beers | Brid’s Cross Brewing ‘BC-0101 American Pale Ale’, ‘BC-0201 Best Bitter’ & ‘BC-0301 American Stout’

Hopinions | Should businesses be promoting on all social media channels or just focusing on the ones that work for them?

Many thanks to Sean for sharing these beers with us. This didn’t influence our thoughts on just how great the beers are.

Hopinions 84 “Innovation vs Core”

We’re back from a mini-break and diving straight into some delicious beers

Beers | Sean O’Reilly / Uncruliar Brews ‘Sean’s Dark Ruby Mild’ and ‘Not So Pale Fire’, Unbarred ‘Mango Pale’, ‘Honeycomb Milkshake Pale’ and ‘Tropic Soda’ and Lagunitas ‘The Waldos Special Ale’

Hopinions | Is constant innovation of beer styles/flavours essential to the survival of breweries or is it a solid core range?

Many thanks to Sean (@uncruliar), Brett from Unbarred and Tom from Lagunitas for sending us beer to try for free on the show, this didn’t influence our thoughts.

Hopinions 10 “Rites of Passage”

image1-2This week we’re talking about the Rites of Passage through beer. What does you journey look like and is it important?

Beers | Fullers ‘Black Cab Stout’, Bob & Sarah Maxfield’s homebrewed DIPA & Liberty Brewing Co ‘Knife Party IPA’

Hopinions | If you go back to the start of your beer journey knowing all that you know now, would your journey be different?

Blogs | Mark Johnson, Pete McKerry and Matt Curtis

Prizeless Prize | Some people will literally go to the ends of the earth to win this thing. Congrats Clayton Chisholm for this stunning pic.

Next week | Do we need a definition for craft beer & beers from Nobby’s Brewery

The Maxfields gave us their hombrew DIPA and it was amazing. The fact it was given to us didn’t change our opinion on just how good it was.

Episode 153 – Homebrew Special #8

HB8This week it’s all about those homebrewers again! In what will now be our last ever Hombrew Special we are joined by Rob Woodland, Paul Hadfield and Rich Caller as they share their beers with us.

Rob gives us ‘Prime’ an American IPA with no bittering hops, from Paul we have single hopped saison ‘Springtime in Amarillo’ and Rich gives us ‘Dim and Peckish’, a barrel aged extra stout with added brett.

Plus we get the guys thoughts on the new Brewdog homebrew competition and there’s another #Hopinions.

Steve refuses to issue a #prizelessprize this week as he believes his picture should have won it so eventually settles on this one.

Episode 141 – Homebrew Special #7

Homebrew 2016.1It’s that time again…

The highlight of every season, where we’re lucky enough to get to sample some amazing beers that are being produced in people’s homes. This time around we’re drinking a porter from Will Millard, a sweet brown from our first international homebrewer, Sarah Finney and finally a barley wine from Richard Harrall.

There’s also an interview with the UK’s premium homebrew supplier, Robert Neale, also know as the Malt Miller.

Plus, we just about remember to award this week’s #prizelessprize

Episode 127 – Homebrew Special #6 (The Imperial March)

IMG_1417.JPG

It’s time for our seasonal trip down homebrew lane as we invite 3 homebrewers from the first 3 homebrew specials

back for a slight variation on a theme. This time round, we told the guys what we wanted and laid down the groundrules… the beers had to be black, had to be impy and had to taste of oranges! So Andy Parker (homebrew special #1), Andrew Hobbs (homebrew special #2) and Ady Goodrich (homebrew special #3) return to share their big impy black orange beers with us.

We also chat about what the impending ‘hop crisis’ will mean for homebrewers and we award a suitably themed big box of nothing in the #prizelessprize

All this plus some exclusive news from Magic Rock Brewing.

Episode 117 – Tastes Like Beer

Our final summer special comes to you live from Hop Burns & Black (well, recorded there at least).

In our first ever live show in front of a group of beery friends we work our way through three beers – our very own white stout ‘Tastes Like Beer’, Gipsy Hill’s ‘Beatnik’ and Gosnell’s ‘London Mead’.

We were also joined by Charlie from Gipsy Hill, Tom from Gosnell’s and Jen & Glenn from Hop Burns & Black.

Massive thanks to all of those who joined us for the evening and to Jen & Glenn for letting us take over their store and for providing us with some great technical support on the evening.

Normal service resumes on Friday 11 September when we return with season 8.

Episode 116 – UBrew

The second of our trio of summer specials documents our recent brewday at UBrew where we brewed our very first beer, the aptly named ‘Tastes Like Beer’.

This show looks at the brewing process from beginning to end with recorded clips from the team at UBrew.

Many thanks to the UBrew team for inviting us down to brew with them, and a special mention for Nick who took us through the process.

Look our for our third summer special to hear what we (and others) thought of our beer.

Episode 113 – Homebrew Special #5

It’s the highlight of the season, the homebrew special!

This time round we’re joined by what we believe to be Britain’s smallest pico-brewer Oli Watts from Watts & Co Brewing, Ben Vickers and Rich Caller who share with us their bitter, salted pineapple wit, and merlot old ale homebrewed, yes homebrewed beers!

We chat labeling in Hop Topic and there’s a first time winner in the #prizelessprize
